Suspected jihadist raid underscores ongoing security crisis.
Suspected jihadists attacked a village in Burkina Faso, killing at least 12 people, including nine members of a civilian volunteer force supporting the military, local and security sources said Tuesday.
The attack occurred in the central eastern village of Dourtenga, where gunmen also looted shops and set buildings on fire during an assault that lasted over an hour.
CBI News reports that Burkina Faso has faced increasing violence from groups linked to Al Qaeda and the Islamic State, despite claims by the military junta that it has regained control of much of the country.
Recent attacks have left more than 130 people dead in about 10 days, according to conflict monitors, highlighting a worsening security situation.
