Atiku reaffirms commitment to African Democratic Congress...
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has dismissed speculation about leaving the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid its ongoing leadership crisis, reaffirming his commitment to the party.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Pidgin, Atiku said there was no need to defect, expressing confidence that the courts would resolve the dispute in favour of the party’s current leadership.
“We believe the trial court will dispense the case as soon as possible, even before Congress. Observers are not lawyers, but we are confident the court will uphold David Mark’s leadership,” he said.
Addressing suggestions that he could join another political party, Atiku insisted that the ADC already has established structures and significant investments, making defection unnecessary.
“Some of the parties don’t have structures. ADC is a coalition of the movement we started about one and a half years ago, so a lot of appropriation has gone into it. We are focused on concluding the judicial process and continuing our activities,” he stated.
On the possibility of missing out on the party’s presidential ticket, Atiku described the ADC as a coalition of key political figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, emphasising unity among them.
“We have agread we are all leaders,” he added.
Atiku’s remarks come as the ADC continues to grapple with internal disputes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
