Atiku hires U.S. lobbying firm to boost international engagement ahead of 2027 elections....
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has engaged a United States lobbying firm as part of preparations ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
According to filings with the US Department of Justice, Atiku signed a 12-month contract worth $1.2 million (about ₦1.9 billion) with Washington-based firm Von Batten-Montague-York, L.C. The agreement was signed on March 10 and registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA) on April 1.
CBI News reports that the firm is expected to provide strategic advisory services, facilitate engagement with members of the US Congress and executive branch, and manage Atiku’s reputation among policymakers and institutions in Washington.
According to the filing, the lobbying effort will “inform and, where appropriate, influence” US government officials on issues concerning Nigeria, including democratic governance, regional stability, economic development, and bilateral relations.
The agreement outlines key objectives such as promoting Atiku’s leadership vision, strengthening his standing in Washington, countering narratives from incumbent authorities, and building structured relationships across US institutions.
The services will also include preparing policy briefs, coordinating high-level meetings, and advising on political and reputational risks.
Atiku, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), is expected to seek the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
