Defence ministry reports interception of hundreds of missiles and drones amid Iran’s retaliation campaign.
Kuwait’s defence ministry said early Friday that 67 members of the country’s armed forces have been injured since the start of Iran’s retaliation campaign in the Middle East conflict, the highest number reported by any Gulf military so far.
Defence ministry spokesman Colonel Saud Al Atwan said the injuries were recorded since the beginning of the attacks but did not specify where the soldiers were wounded.
He added that Kuwaiti forces had identified and responded to 212 ballistic missiles and 394 drones since Saturday as regional tensions escalated.
Kuwait has also recorded the highest death toll among Gulf countries during the conflict so far. Eight of the 13 people killed in the Gulf region have died in Kuwait.
Those killed include four United States service members, two Kuwaiti army personnel and two civilians.
Washington has said that a total of six US service members have died in the conflict.
The United States has maintained a significant military presence in Kuwait since the 1991 Gulf War, when American forces helped liberate the country after Iraq’s invasion in 1990.
Several US military facilities operate in Kuwait, including Camp Arifjan, which hosts the forward headquarters for the US Army component of the military’s Middle East Central Command.
The country also hosts Ali Al Salem Air Base, home to the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing. The US military describes the base as a primary airlift hub used to deliver combat power to joint and coalition forces operating across the region.
The United States also operates drones, including MQ 9 Reaper aircraft, from bases in Kuwait.
