The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has criticised some public universities for refusing or only partially implementing the salary aspect of its 2025 agreement with the Federal Government.
According to reports monitored by cbinews.tv, ASUU Kano Zone Coordinator, Abdullahi Muhammad, made the remarks during a press briefing held at Bayero University Kano on Wednesday.
Muhammad said the excitement that followed the signing of the Federal Government-ASUU agreement in January 2026 is already fading because of delays and poor implementation by government officials and some university authorities.
He accused several Vice Chancellors of either ignoring or only partly enforcing the salary adjustments agreed upon after years of negotiations between ASUU and the government.
The union also expressed concern over the delay in setting up the implementation monitoring committee, warning that it is affecting other parts of the agreement, including plans for the proposed National Research Council.
ASUU called on both the Federal and State Governments to fully honour the agreement to maintain industrial peace and avoid disruptions to the academic calendar in Nigerian universities.
The union added that it remains committed to ensuring lecturers benefit from the gains achieved during the eight-year negotiation process between 2017 and 2025.
