ASUU UNIJOS declares indefinite strike over unpaid March salaries...
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at the University of Jos has declared an indefinite strike over unpaid salaries.
CBI News reports that the decision was announced on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, following complaints by lecturers over the non-payment of their March salary and the absence of the Earned Academic Allowance.
The union directed all members to immediately withdraw their services, including lectures, examinations, and official meetings.
Branch leaders said the action followed due approval from both the union’s National Executive Council and its local congress, noting that members had exercised patience while expecting the issue to be resolved.
“After following due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, the conduct of exams, and statutory meetings, as our salary for the month of March 2026 is yet to be paid despite our patience,” the statement read.
According to the union, investigations showed that the delay did not originate within the university, as the bursary department had already completed the necessary processes.
Instead, the union linked the problem to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, which it believes is responsible for the delay in releasing the funds.
ASUU warned that continued delays could disrupt stability within the academic system, stressing that members are increasingly frustrated by recurring issues with salary payments.
The union also announced that its monitoring team would be activated to ensure full compliance with the strike directive.
