Former Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp says he is open to returning in a caretaker role at the club...
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta described Thomas Frank as “extraordinary” after Tottenham Hotspur sacked the Dane on Wednesday, but said Premier League coaches are always vulnerable to losing their jobs.
Frank was dismissed after eight months in charge following Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat by Newcastle United, a result that left Spurs five points above the relegation zone and without a win in eight league games.
Arsenal, who lead the Premier League table, visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the north London derby next Sunday.
“It is always very sad news when you have a colleague who doesn’t continue doing his job because Thomas is an excellent coach, he’s an extraordinary man, and he’s proven that in the league,” Arteta said.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s match at Brentford, the Spaniard added: “But we know where we are.
“We know that our responsibility is beyond just performance. And results dictate what happens with us.”
Frank, 52, became the seventh Premier League manager to lose his job this season. Former Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou lasted 39 days at Nottingham Forest earlier in the campaign.
Asked whether clubs were becoming too impatient in their pursuit of success, Arteta said: “In the context of every club it is very different, but it’s always a possibility.
“But at the end as well, this league is so competitive. We are all vulnerable because anybody can beat you on the day, you know that. And that’s really tough to manage.”
