Germany international, Havertz has undergone a knee surgery which will only rule him out for weeks and not months.
Arsenal midfielder Kai Havertz has undergone a minor knee operation and is expected to miss only a few weeks of action, the Premier League club confirmed on Thursday.
The 26-year-old Germany international sat out Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Leeds at the Emirates last weekend after sustaining the injury following the Gunners’ opening-weekend victory at Manchester United on August 17.
“Today, Kai underwent a successful minor surgical procedure,” Arsenal said in a statement.
“He will shortly begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with everyone fully focused on supporting Kai to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
The decision to operate came after follow-up medical assessments with specialists, though the club remains optimistic about a relatively quick return for the midfielder.
Havertz’s setback was confirmed just days before Arsenal hijacked Eberechi Eze’s proposed move to Tottenham, completing the England international’s transfer from Crystal Palace for £60 million ($81m).
Eze, who was presented to supporters before the Leeds match, is set to make his Arsenal debut against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday, as the Gunners continue their bid to end a 22-year Premier League title drought.
CBI News reports that Manager Mikel Arteta faces mounting injury concerns ahead of the trip to Merseyside.
Bukayo Saka (hamstring) and Martin Ødegaard (ankle) were both forced off against Leeds. Christian Nørgaard and Ben White remain doubtful. Gabriel Jesus continues his long-term recovery from a knee problem.
