After two decades of waiting, Arsenal Kenya fans took over the streets of Kisumu with bikes, flags, and chants — and they say the trophy isn’t going anywhere soon.
The streets of Kisumu turned red and white this weekend as Arsenal Kenya supporters marched, danced and rode bikes towards their club ahead of the big game. From fans waving flags on motorbikes to others blocking traffic with impromptu dance circles, the city felt every bit of the long-awaited moment.
Clips from the day show supporters rallying on cars, spilling into the club, and filling the venue with chants. Inside, the mood only intensified, fans danced with the DJ, applauded every chance, held up mock trophies and belted out the anthem as they watched the match together.
“It took us six years trusting the process, and we believed that finally this was our day. Here we are, we are the Champions,” said Orondo Bush of Arsenal Kenya fans club, speaking to cbinews.tv. “Twenty-two years. The last time we won, we did O2. We are doing O2 today because remember the last time we won the trophy.”
For Bush, the rivals only fuel the fire. “Haters make you strong, and haters only show how much they admire what you are doing. So we love the haters, we encourage them to hate us more. But now that we have clinched this trophy, relinquishing it would be very stressful. Let them forget about it for at least the next five hooping years. It’s for Arsenal, Arsenal, Arsenal.”
The sentiment was echoed by lifelong fans who had waited decades for this. William Odero put it bluntly: “Even if your wife does not give birth for ten years, I would encourage other people, don’t send your wife away. Don’t send your wife away, encourage her, support her just in the same way I have been supporting my team. I have been humbled, humbled, and patient to wait for this moment, and the moment has really come.”
Josephine Ndale shared the same disbelief and joy: “I have been supporting Arsenal. Since I was born, I have been a fan of Arsenal, and I have never seen Arsenal win a league since I was born. This is the first time I am watching Arsenal take the league.”
Outside the fan club, the Kenya Arsenal Fanclub sign stood proud beside a trophy on display, while supporters continued rallying on bikes long after the final whistle. For Arsenal fans in Kisumu, 22 years of waiting ended with music, movement and a message: they’re not letting go anytime soon.
