Tension erupted at the APC secretariat in Ibadan as angry party members protested what they described as an unfair and undemocratic House of Representatives primary process.
Some members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Ibadan North West and Ibadan South West local government areas stormed the party’s secretariat in Oke-Ado, Ibadan, over alleged disenfranchisement in the ongoing House of Representatives primary election cbinews.tv reports
The protesters claimed that in Wards 1 to 12 of Ibadan South West, only ten people per ward were allegedly selected and taken to another location to sign documents, instead of allowing a proper voting process.
They also alleged that a similar method was used in Ibadan North West, where another set of ten people were reportedly picked to sign documents without a transparent electoral procedure.
The aggrieved members described the process as unfair and accused party leaders of trying to impose candidates on the constituency.
Reacting to the protest, Chairman of the APC Primary Committee in Oyo State, Hon. Mojeed Alabi, said disagreements are common during elections and advised aggrieved members to submit their complaints to the party’s appeal committee after the exercise.
Speaking with journalists at the APC State Secretariat in Oke-Ado, Alabi explained that the committee’s responsibility is to supervise and monitor the primaries across ward levels in all fourteen federal constituencies in Oyo State.
He added that the exercise is expected to remain democratic, inclusive, and in line with the party’s guidelines.
As tensions continue to rise within the party, members are now awaiting response from the APC appeal committee regarding the allegations raised by the protesters.
