Wait, 200 Amotekun operatives gone? That’s the bombshell Oyo APC just dropped on Governor Makinde — and they’re not pulling punches.
The Oyo State chapter of the All-Progressives Congress isn’t having it. According to cbinews.tv, the party has branded the reported loss of more than 200 operatives from the Western Nigeria Security Network, aka Amotekun, as completely unacceptable.
This all kicked off after Governor Seyi Makinde reportedly revealed that the state had lost over 200 Amotekun officers. In a statement released on Thursday, APC Publicity Secretary Wasiu Sadare demanded the governor come clean with more details.
Why? The party says transparency is key to making sure Amotekun officers — and frankly, all Oyo residents — actually get the protection they deserve.
And the APC had a few more bones to pick. They called out the practice of posting Amotekun corps to man hotels, private properties, and businesses owned by the governor’s friends and political allies. Their take? That needs to stop. Deploy them for what they were set up to do — fight crime.
The party also didn’t mince words about the bigger picture:
“For Oyo to have recorded such a high number of fatalities among its security team, it indicates that crime rates in the state have reached a crescendo while the state government covers up a whole lot of things,” the statement read, as reported by cbinews.tv.
APC went further, questioning the working conditions in the Corps. Their “discreet investigations” suggest Governor Makinde hasn’t built proper synergy between Amotekun and federal security agencies — blaming it on “needless ego and cluelessness.”
So, what’s their fix? Bring in security experts, stop the VIP postings, recruit only competent hands, and sort out proper training, retraining, and welfare packages. That way, operatives can work with “minimum risk and high motivation.”
In short: re-train them, equip them properly, and let Amotekun be Amotekun.
