The APC in Bayelsa says it is ready for a transparent and credible primary election as the party officially adopts direct primaries for its National Assembly candidates ahead of the 2027 polls.
The Bayelsa chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted direct primaries for the emergence of its National Assembly candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections, cbinews.tv reports.
Chairman of the APC Electoral Panel for the exercise, Chief Solomon Eze Ogba, made the announcement during a press briefing on Saturday at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Yenagoa.
According to Ogba, the move marks the official commencement of the process to elect candidates for Senate and House of Representatives seats in the state.
He explained that the party chose the direct primary option in line with the Electoral Act, adding that members of the electoral panel had already arrived in Bayelsa and were fully prepared to conduct a credible exercise.
Ogba said the APC carefully selected individuals with proven integrity to oversee the primaries across wards, local government areas, and federal constituencies.
He assured aspirants and party stakeholders of a free, fair, and transparent process while calling for cooperation from party members throughout the exercise.
The APC chieftain also praised the Bayelsa State Government and residents for maintaining peace ahead of the primaries.
He disclosed that sensitive election materials had already been distributed to designated voting centres across the state.
Ogba further revealed that most aspirants screened in Abuja for the National Assembly positions had been cleared to participate, while consensus discussions were still ongoing in some constituencies to ensure a smooth process.
However, he declined to reveal the exact number of cleared aspirants, noting that screening was handled by a different committee.
“Delegates will see the final list of eligible aspirants at their respective wards when they arrive for the primaries,” he stated.
