A peaceful protest in Maryland, Lagos, turned violent on Wednesday after some self-styled pro-Tinubu supporters allegedly chased, harassed and attacked demonstrators calling for an end to the Tinubu administration.

Cbinews.tv reports that the protesters had gathered peacefully to demand an end to the administration of President Bola Tinubu, over what they described as worsening socio-economic conditions in the country.
Chanting protest songs as they marched through parts of Maryland, the demonstrators blamed poor economic policies, rising insecurity and widespread unemployment for the hardship facing many Nigerians.
The peaceful atmosphere, however, changed dramatically when a group who claim to be pro-Tinubu supporters arrived at the scene.
Protesters told CBI News that the pro-government group chased, harassed and attacked peaceful protesters, triggering panic in the area.
Meanwhile, the protesters expressed displeasure with the present administration, saying that was their main purpose for taking to the street.
As tensions escalated and the situation spiralled out of control, police officers fired tear gas canisters to disperse the crowd, sending protesters, journalists and bystanders scrambling for safety.
In the ensuing confusion, several people were injured. Several journalists covering the protest were also attacked and sustained varying degrees of injuries, with some reporting that their mobile phones and other personal belongings were taken.
Witnesses alleged that the attackers were among the pro-Tinubu supporters.
Security operatives eventually restored order, although normal activities in the area were temporarily disrupted.
The protest was later dispersed under heavy security presence. As of the time of filing this report, the police are yet to issue an official statement on the reported attacks on journalists, while the Presidency is yet to respond to the protesters’ demands.
