It’s a family affair in football management again but this time, Davide Ancelotti is stepping out of dad Carlo’s shadow and into the Lille dugout.
Lille confirmed on Monday that Davide Ancelotti, assistant to his father Carlo with the Brazil national team, will take over as their new head coach, cbinews.tv reports.
The 36 year old has penned a two year deal with the French side, just a week after Bruno Genesio’s exit. But Lille haven’t said whether he’ll juggle the job alongside his Brazil duties or step away before the World Cup kicks off on 11 June and runs until 19 July.
This will be Ancelotti’s second stint as a head coach, after a six month spell with Brazilian outfit Botafogo last year. He now inherits a Lille team heading into the Champions League, having finished third in Ligue 1 last season, 15 points adrift of champions Paris Saint-Germain.
Fans won’t have to wait long to see him in action. The new Ligue 1 campaign gets under way on the weekend of 22 to 23 August.
