NSCDC partners NUPENG-LPGAR and retailers in Anambra to crack down on illegal gas operators and strengthen safety in the oil and gas sector.
The Anambra Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced plans to collaborate with industry stakeholders to curb illegal activities and strengthen safety standards in the oil and gas sector.
The partnership involves the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers – Liquefied Petroleum Gas Retailers Association (NUPENG-LPGAR) and petroleum retailers across the state.
Speaking in Awka during a courtesy visit by the Anambra Chapter of NUPENG-LPGAR, the NSCDC Commandant in the state, Maku Olatunde, stressed the need for joint efforts to address unethical practices in gas storage, distribution and sales.
He highlighted concerns over the operations of unregistered gas retailers and warned that the corps would not relent in its mandate to sanitise the sector and protect lives and property.
The NUPENG-LPGAR Chairman in Anambra, Tochukwu Ngini, raised alarm over the circulation of substandard cylinders and the dangerous presence of high-propane LPG in the market, describing them as serious safety threats.
CBI News reports that Ngini pledged the union’s cooperation in joint enforcement operations with the NSCDC to ensure compliance with best practices and eliminate illegal operators.
