Anambra Lodge Collapse: one Dead, Rescue Ongoing in Oko

Tragedy in Oko as rescuers pull a female student from the rubble of a collapsed three-storey lodge, and the search is far from over.
It’s been a tense and heartbreaking scene in Anambra State.
Rescue efforts have intensified at Amokpala, Oko, in Orumba North Local Government Area, where a three-storey building known as the Elite Five Star lodge came crashing down late Sunday night.
According to a report by cbinews.tv, emergency workers have now recovered the body of a female victim, believed to be a student, from beneath the debris.
And there is more sad news. Officials at the scene have also located the body of a young man, also said to be a student, trapped under the rubble. As of the time of filing this report, his body was yet to be retrieved as the delicate operation continues.
The lodge was said to be home to several students and other occupants at the time of the collapse.
Right now, a combined rescue team is on the ground and refusing to give up. The team includes the Nigerian Red Cross Society, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the Anambra State Fire Service, the Nigeria Police Force, and operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi, among other security agencies.
With heavy-duty excavators and other rescue equipment, they are carefully clearing the rubble, trying to reach anyone who might still be trapped while also ensuring the safety of the rescue personnel.
You can imagine the atmosphere: anxious students, residents, and sympathisers gathered at the scene, watching with growing concern as security operatives cordoned off the area to give emergency teams space to work.
Speaking on the incident, the Acting Executive Secretary of SEMA, Mrs Ndidi Omega, confirmed the death of the female victim and that the young man’s body is still trapped. She also disclosed that three injured persons had earlier been rushed to hospital.
She assured that the rescue operation will continue until every section of the debris has been thoroughly searched.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to residents to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and allow the emergency teams to do their job, promising to provide more updates as they become available.
