Political analysts and stakeholders are raising concerns over the ability of Nigeria’s opposition parties to unite and mount a serious challenge against the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections continue to gather momentum, analysts and stakeholders are expressing mixed reactions over the strength and readiness of Nigeria’s opposition coalition.
Many believe the alliance may struggle to effectively challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, if internal divisions and personal interests among key political figures are not addressed.
Speaking during an interview session, security expert and global affairs analyst, Jackson Lekan-Ojo, said opposition parties are currently battling internal crises and leadership ambitions, a situation he warned could weaken efforts to build a united and formidable coalition before the elections.
Also speaking, public affairs analyst, Fyneface Dumnamene, and the President of the South South Youth Initiative, Saviour Oscar, stressed the need for opposition parties to focus on unity, grassroots mobilisation, credible candidates, and proper strategic planning if they hope to gain the confidence of Nigerians ahead of 2027.
According to them, continued internal conflicts and delays in forming strong political alliances may further reduce the opposition’s chances at the polls.
On developments in Rivers State politics, stakeholders also expressed concerns over divisions within the APC, especially between loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
They questioned how possible it would be for the party to conduct consensus primaries in the state amid ongoing factional disputes.
The stakeholders further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to remain neutral and ensure all political parties strictly comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political observers say the coming months will play a major role in determining whether Nigeria’s opposition parties can truly unite and present a strong alternative capable of reshaping the country’s political landscape ahead of the next general elections.
