Security forces seize weapons and ammunition in northeastern Algeria.
Algerian army units killed four armed militants during a counterterrorism operation in the northeastern region of Tebessa, the defence ministry announced on Friday.
The operation, conducted in a mountainous and remote area known for militant activity, resulted in the recovery of four Kalashnikov rifles, a substantial quantity of ammunition, and other military equipment, the ministry added.
Officials said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle extremist networks in northeastern Algeria and to strengthen security along border areas.
The defence ministry emphasized that the troops acted with precision to avoid civilian casualties while neutralizing the threat. Local authorities confirmed that the raid disrupted planned militant operations in the region.
CBI News reports that Algeria has maintained heightened military vigilance in border provinces, which have historically been used as hideouts by armed groups, and the government continues to implement regular counterterrorism operations to protect local communities.
