Akwa Ibom Takes Delivery of 40 CNG Buses

Big boost for commuters in Akwa Ibom! The state is now just 10 buses away from rolling out its promised affordable mass transit system.
Akwa Ibom State is getting serious about fixing its transport wahala, and residents are already feeling hopeful.
The state government has just taken delivery of another batch of 10 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses, bringing the total number delivered to 40. That is 80 per cent of the 50 buses promised under Governor Umo Eno’s mass transit programme. The remaining 10 are expected to arrive very soon.
The latest buses arrived in Uyo on Monday, 10th August, as part of a deliberate push to cushion the effect of rising transport fares on households, workers and businesses.
Receiving the buses, the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Anthony Luke, said the delivery shows the governor is not just making promises, but actually delivering on them. He added that the government is not stopping at buses alone; work on the CNG terminal is progressing steadily and is on track for completion.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Documentation, Dr Essien Ndueso, said this is clear proof that the administration is keeping its word.
“The Governor promised that 50 buses would be procured to boost transportation, and today, we have seen 40 of those buses arrive,” he said.
According to him, the buses will work hand-in-hand with the massive road expansion happening across the state, which will make movement easier between towns and villages.
“Beyond these buses, if you go around Akwa Ibom State, you will see a good network of roads that will ensure smooth movement across the nooks and crannies of the State,” he added.
For many residents, it is cheering news. Special Assistant to the Governor on Transport, Aniefiok George, said people are genuinely excited because they know what this means for their pockets.
“Akwa Ibom people are happy because they know that this will bring relief and reduce the cost of transportation,” George noted.
With 40 buses on the ground and the CNG terminal taking shape, Akwa Ibom looks set to launch a cleaner, cheaper and more connected transport system.
