Extra cash for corps members in Akwa Ibom as council boss approves fresh allowance.
Chief Uno Etim, Executive Chairman of Urue Offong Oruko Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, has approved N20,000 monthly stipend for each corps member serving in the area. He announced it Tuesday during a courtesy visit, saying payment takes immediate effect.
Posting far from home can be tough on federal allowance alone. This top up helps with transport, data and daily costs and shows the council values their service.
He told them to see the area as home and promised prompt action on accommodation, directing Works Department to inspect lodges for renovation.
NYSC, set up in 1973, sends graduates to serve outside their home state. Many councils add N5,000 to N20,000 on top of federal pay.
This N20,000 sits at the higher end and could set a local standard. Corps members, led by Community Liaison Officer Ukachukwu Ifeanyi, thanked the chairman for his development drive. Lodge checks begin now.
