Akor Adams wants early and consistent preparation for Nigeria’s 2030 World Cup qualification...
Sevilla forward Akor Adams has called for urgent and sustained preparation as Nigeria aims to return to the FIFA World Cup after back-to-back qualification disappointments.
The striker said it was no longer time for reflection, insisting that planning must begin immediately if the Super Eagles are to secure a spot at the 2030 tournament.
Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup after a playoff loss to Ghana, and hopes of a quick comeback were dashed again when Eric Chelle’s side lost on penalties to DR Congo in the African playoff final, missing out on the 2026 edition in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Adams warned that another failure could have serious consequences for Nigerian football, both in terms of reputation and morale.
“The players as well, we are motivated to see that we don’t disappoint ourselves and Nigerians for the third time,” he said.
“Because I think that would take a very big toll on Nigerian football.”
He stressed that preparations for the next World Cup must begin now and continue consistently over time.
“The preparation starts now. It starts every day leading up to the World Cup 2030. We look forward to it, and we try to rewrite the story,” he added.
