Akor Adams scored twice off the bench to help Sevilla secure a 2-2 draw against Elche...
Nigerian striker Akor Adams marked his return from international duty in dramatic fashion on Monday night, scoring twice off the bench to earn Sevilla FC a 2-2 draw against Elche CF and snap the club’s four-match losing run across all competitions.
Fresh from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), Adams delivered a decisive cameo after Sevilla found themselves two goals down.
CBI News reports that Elche started brightly and took the lead within the opening 15 minutes when Martim Neto split the Sevilla defence with a clever pass to Aleix Febas, who fired past Odysseas Vlachodimos.
The hosts, who have struggled for consistency this season, doubled their advantage shortly after the restart as Germán Valera found space in the box and finished calmly.
Sevilla head coach Matías Almeyda introduced Adams at the start of the second half, and the move paid off almost immediately.
The 25-year-old pulled one back to end Sevilla’s five-match goal drought in competitive games and swing momentum in the visitors’ favour.
Deep into stoppage time, Sevilla were handed a lifeline when referee Ricardo de Burgos awarded a penalty for a handball in the Elche area. Adams kept his composure to convert from the spot, completing his brace and rescuing a point for Sevilla.
Fellow Nigerian and AFCON returnee Chidera Ejuke came on in the 65th minute and helped stabilise Sevilla as they finally halted a run of defeats that dated back to December 17, shortly after both players left for the continental tournament.
Adams was a key performer for the Super Eagles at AFCON, featuring in all seven matches and registering two goals and two assists as Nigeria finished third.
