The 44 individuals are expected to be repatriated to Ghana soon, where they will receive reintegration support.
Akwa Ibom State authorities have handed over 44 Ghanaian nationals rescued from human trafficking to officials from the Ghanaian High Commission and the National Anti-Trafficking Agency.
CBI News reports that the victims, who were intercepted in various parts of the state, were presented during a formal handover ceremony at the state command of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) in Uyo.
The operation followed intelligence-led efforts by security agencies and NAPTIP operatives to dismantle trafficking networks exploiting vulnerable individuals, many of whom were lured with false promises of employment or better opportunities.
State officials emphasized Akwa Ibom’s zero-tolerance stance on human trafficking and commended collaborative efforts with federal agencies and international partners in ensuring the victims’ safe repatriation.
The Ghanaian officials expressed gratitude for the swift action and pledged continued cooperation to combat cross-border trafficking syndicates.
