What exactly is the end product of political leadership in Africa? Is it economic prosperity, accountable governance, stronger institutions, or improved living standards for citizens?
These are some of the critical questions that will take centre stage as thought leaders, activists, traditional figures and governance advocates gather in Lagos for Africa Memorial Day 2026.
As conversations around governance, accountability and development continue to shape Africa’s future, stakeholders from different walks of life are set to converge on Lagos for the 2026 edition of Africa Memorial Day.
Organised by the Correct Connect Africa Foundation (CCAF), the event will hold on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the Muson Centre, Lagos, with virtual participation also available for audiences across the continent and in the diaspora.
This year’s event comes with a thought-provoking theme: “Political Leadership and Governance in Africa, what is the end product?”
The theme challenges Africans to look beyond political promises and examine the actual outcomes of leadership on the continent. From economic growth and security to social welfare and institutional development, organisers say the event aims to spark honest conversations about what citizens should expect from those entrusted with power.
Leading the discussion as keynote speaker is renowned human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana.
Widely respected for his decades-long advocacy for democracy, constitutional rights, social justice and government accountability, Falana is expected to provide insight into the state of governance in Africa and the reforms needed to strengthen democratic institutions across the continent.
The event will also feature a distinguished panel of speakers with diverse experiences in leadership, public affairs, community development and governance.
Among them is Evans Eboigbodin, a leadership advocate known for his passion for civic engagement and African development.
Also expected on the panel is Dr Ronke Posh Adeniyi, whose work has focused on leadership, social impact and empowering communities through strategic engagement and development initiatives.
Princess Adenike Adedoyin Ajayi brings the perspective of traditional leadership and community development, contributing to discussions on culture, values and nation-building.
Businessman and public affairs stakeholder Aare Lai Labode is expected to share insights on leadership, economic empowerment and the role of citizens in shaping governance outcomes.
Joining the conversation is Prince Adesina-Doro, a governance enthusiast and advocate for sustainable development, who will contribute perspectives on leadership and Africa’s future.
Completing the panel is lawyer, author and political commentator Dele Farotimi, whose outspoken views on governance, democracy and institutional reforms have made him one of the most recognisable voices in Nigeria’s contemporary political discourse.
According to the organisers, Africa Memorial Day is not merely about commemorating the past. It is about drawing lessons from history to address present challenges and build a better future.
The event’s guiding message is simple but powerful: Reflect on our past. Rethink our present. Rebuild our future.
As Africa continues to navigate complex political, economic and social realities, organisers believe the conversation around leadership has never been more important.
With participants expected from across sectors, Africa Memorial Day 2026 aims to serve as a platform for honest reflection, constructive dialogue and practical ideas capable of moving the continent forward.
The question now is one that will resonate long after the event ends: What should be the true end product of political leadership and governance in Africa?
On June 6, some of Africa’s leading voices will attempt to provide answers.
