Osinbajo appointed Senior Strategic Adviser to Africa CDC’s Director-General...
The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has appointed former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo as Senior Strategic Adviser to its Director-General, Jean Kaseya, in a move aimed at strengthening leadership around the continent’s health priorities.
CBI News reports that the appointment was announced on Monday in a statement by Margaret Edwin, Director of Communication and Public Information at Africa CDC.
Edwin said the decision aligns with the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty Agenda, which seeks to amplify Africa’s voice in global health discussions, improve domestic health financing, and expand local production of medical supplies.
According to her, Osinbajo will provide strategic guidance on Africa’s role in ongoing global health architecture reforms.
His advisory role will also cover sustainable health financing, strengthening local manufacturing capacity, and fostering partnerships to boost the continent’s health resilience and cooperation efforts.
She noted that the former vice-president brings extensive experience in governance, finance, law, and diplomacy, describing his appointment as timely as Africa pushes for greater influence over its health systems.
“This appointment reflects Africa CDC’s commitment to mobilising African leadership of the highest calibre in service of the continent’s health security, sovereignty, and development,” Edwin said.
She added that Osinbajo’s background in public policy and governance would support ongoing efforts to build stronger and more resilient health systems across African Union member states, particularly in areas of pandemic preparedness, prevention, and response.
