Dalung says ADC’s strength lies in its collective resolve, not individual ambitions...
Former Minister of Youth and Sports, Solomon Dalung, has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is structured around collective strength rather than individual political ambitions, stressing that the party is focused on presenting a united front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
CBI News reports that Dalung made the remarks on Sunday during an interview on Channels Television, where he expressed confidence that the ADC has enough political heavyweights capable of confronting and defeating President Bola Tinubu at the polls.
According to him, the presence of several influential figures within the party is a major advantage rather than a source of weakness.
“So I think we have so many people to challenge Tinubu,” Dalung said.
“I can decide to contest the election, and I will challenge him.”
Addressing concerns that the large number of aspirants could lead to internal divisions over the party’s presidential ticket, Dalung said ADC members have already agreed on a process to prevent such outcomes.
He explained that the party has resolved to conduct a transparent primary election and rally behind whoever emerges as the candidate.
“We are going to conduct a transparent primary, and we have also resolved that whoever wins a transparent primary will be the person all of us support to challenge Tinubu,” he said.
“So, challenging Tinubu is not an individual issue. It’s not the issue of the candidate; it’s the issue of the party. That resolution has been issued and approved.”
Dalung also listed several prominent political figures he said are part of the ADC coalition seeking to unseat President Tinubu in 2027.
They include former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, former Rivers State governor and ex-minister Rotimi Amaechi, former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola, former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress John Odigie-Oyegun, and former Senate President David Mark.
He maintained that the convergence of these figures under the ADC underscores the party’s resolve to offer a united and credible challenge in the next presidential election.
