ADC announces expulsion of Nafiu Bala-Gombe and Leke Abejide over an ongoing leadership crisis...
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the expulsion of its former Deputy National Chairman, Nafiu Bala-Gombe, and a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide, amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the party.
CBI News reports that the decision was made during the party’s national convention held in Abuja by a faction led by former Senate President, David Mark.
The convention, which took place at the Rainbow Events Centre, drew over 3,000 delegates and political stakeholders as the party steps up preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In addition to Bala-Gombe and Abejide, the faction also expelled Kenneth Ehiator, Stella Chukwu, and Elias Adiukwu.
The move comes against the backdrop of a prolonged leadership tussle between Bala-Gombe and David Mark over control of the party at the national level.
The crisis has drawn in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which recently removed the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC.
INEC also stated that it would not recognise Bala-Gombe, who is seeking to be declared national chairman through ongoing court proceedings.
In a statement, the commission said it would suspend recognition of all factions within the party and refrain from monitoring any conventions or congresses organised by groups aligned with the rival leaders.
According to INEC, the decision will remain in effect pending the final determination of a substantive case before the Federal High Court.
The development follows a deepening internal crisis within the ADC, further complicated by a recent judgment of the Court of Appeal in Suit No. CA/ABJ/145/2026, with multiple legal battles continuing to create uncertainty over the party’s recognised leadership.
