Fintiri says move will strengthen Adamawa’s development and federal alignment.
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Governor of Adamawa State, has announced his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, describing the decision as a strategic step in the best interest of the state.
In a statewide broadcast from Yola on February 27, 2026, Fintiri said the move followed broad consultations and careful consideration of Adamawa’s long term stability and growth.
He noted that his administration, elected in 2019 and re elected in 2023, remains guided by the trust and mandate of the people.
The governor highlighted achievements in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, and empowerment programmes, adding that recent national political developments required a decisive realignment.
He said aligning with the All Progressives Congress would position Adamawa to better benefit from the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, particularly in infrastructure and economic development.
CBI News reports that Fintiri emphasized that the defection was not driven by personal ambition but by the need to reposition the state within mainstream national politics.
He confirmed that his political structure across the state would move with him and urged supporters to register with the All Progressives Congress.
