Nigeria isn’t backing down on terrorism — and the Attorney-General just made that crystal clear in Abuja.
As reported by cbinews.tv, the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), has doubled down on the Federal Government’s hard stance against terrorism.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja on Monday at the start of a fresh round of terrorism trials, Fagbemi said the Tinubu administration isn’t taking any chances. His words? “We will fight with every inch of our blood to ensure that we make Nigeria a safe haven for everybody.”
This latest phase is actually the fourth set of terrorism trials since this government came in. And it’s a big one. Nearly 600 suspects are set to face terrorism-related charges over the coming days.
Here’s how the numbers break down, according to the AGF: about 490 suspects are up today, with another 84 lined up for tomorrow. That 84 doesn’t even include 102 cases rolled over from the last phase. Add it all up and you’re looking at 600+ suspects in the dock this phase alone.
Fagbemi stressed that the message is “clear, direct and straightforward” — terrorism in any form won’t be tolerated. He also noted that the judges handling the mass trial have assured the government they’ll do their utmost to work through the caseload.
The mass trials are part of the Federal Government’s wider push to prosecute individuals accused of terrorism and insurgency, all aimed at tackling insecurity across the country.
