Abia State government approves payment of adjusted minimum wage for teachers and staff of the State Education Management Board, aiming to clear outstanding entitlements.
The Abia State Government on Sunday announced the approval of the payment of adjusted minimum wages to staff of the State Education Management Board (SEMB) and teachers.
Kenechukwu Nwosu, Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Basic and Secondary Education, disclosed this in a statement in Umuahia. He said the payments form part of ongoing efforts to improve the welfare of education personnel across the state.
“The government is committed to ensuring that all education personnel receive their entitlements promptly. We are also arranging payments for teachers whose contracts were previously extended but later discontinued due to system-related issues,” Nwosu said.
He commended Governor Otti for prioritising the education sector and consistently promoting the well-being of teachers and other education staff.
According to the statement, the Abia State Government had approved the revised minimum wage in 2023 in line with federal directives.
However, delays in processing salaries and allowances had affected some SEMB staff and teachers, particularly those on extended service contracts.
CBI News reports that the recent payments aim to clear outstanding entitlements and ensure compliance with the adjusted wage structure, the statement added.
