Imagine going to work as a labourer by day, but police say you masterminded a chilling double murder by night. That’s the case rocking Ogun State right now.
So, here’s what’s going down in Abeokuta, and it’s honestly grim stuff.
The Ogun State Police Command has nicked a 22-year-old construction labourer, Sodeinde Philip, for allegedly orchestrating the murder of former OGTV broadcaster Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo. This is according to a briefing shared with cbinews.tv.
Speaking to journalists on Thursday, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni said Philip not only confessed to taking part in the killings but also admitted he recruited two other men to help carry them out.
The whole thing came to light on 21 June. Officers from Owode-Egba Police Station got a tip about suspicious activity at the victim’s home and forced their way in. What they found was heartbreaking — 38-year-old guard Pelumi Adetayo dead in the security house, and Oyesiku lying in a pool of blood in the main building’s living room.
To make it worse, Oyesiku’s Lexus RX 330 SUV had vanished. That kicked off a full-on manhunt with intel gathering and tech tracking.
By the next day, police had traced the car. The number plates had been ripped off, but officers found the original plate stashed under one of the seats — confirming it was hers.
Here’s the wild bit: the attackers left behind a handwritten note. Ojajuni said forensic analysis of that note gave detectives the leads they needed to track down the suspects.
Fast forward to 24 June — Philip was arrested at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was literally working as a labourer. Further digging led police to two alleged accomplices: 27-year-old security guard Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola and 36-year-old bricklayer Sobu Obafunsho.
During questioning, Philip reportedly came clean. He admitted his role in Oyesiku’s murder and said he was the one who brought Ayoola and Obafunsho into it.
