INEC and the individuals mentioned have not publicly responded to the allegations...
Former senator Ishaku Abbo has alleged that internal disagreements and political manoeuvring triggered the ongoing crisis within Nigeria’s African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a statement on his social media page, Abbo linked the dispute to the resignation of Nafiu Bala, a former Deputy National Chairman, and members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), which paved the way for a new leadership led by David Mark.
He said an agreement had been reached to allocate key positions to members of the legacy structure, including offering Bala the role of National Vice Chairman for the Northeast. However, Abbo alleged that the new leadership reneged on the deal and instead appointed Babachir Lawal to the position.
According to Abbo, Bala rejected an alternative offer of zonal financial secretary, describing it as a downgrade. He claimed the development led to discontent and subsequent actions that escalated the crisis.
Abbo further alleged that some political actors, including a retired security official and unnamed government figures, were involved in efforts to destabilise the party. He also claimed that certain officials influenced actions by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the ADC.
He called on Bala to withdraw the legal case related to the dispute and urged INEC to reverse what he described as politically motivated actions.
Abbo said he would address the matter further in a live broadcast, promising to provide more details on the crisis within the party, including issues affecting its Adamawa State chapter.
