Almost all of President Tinubu's ambassadorial nominees have got the green light abroad - the FG says only two countries are still pending.

The Federal Government has confirmed that 65 out of the 69 ambassadors-designates appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu have now been formally accepted by their host countries. That's about 97 per cent of the postings, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In a statement released on Saturday in Abuja by its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, the Ministry said there's really no cause for alarm over any delay. Getting an agreement - which is basically the official "yes, we will host your ambassador" from the receiving country - takes time and follows standard global diplomatic practice.

Here's the breakdown:

The President had assigned 69 ambassadors-designate after Senate screening and confirmation. Out of that number, 65 have already secured acceptance. One nominee, posted to Togo, actually turned down the appointment before the agreement was even requested. Sadly, the nominee for Algeria passed away in April 2026, and a replacement is being processed.

That leaves just two countries still to confirm, and the Ministry says it has received assurances that their approval will come in due course.

The good news? Most of our ambassadors have already jetted out, presented their Letters of Credence, and started work fully as President Tinubu's top envoys abroad.

The FG says it remains committed to boosting Nigeria's diplomatic presence and pushing our national interest on the global stage.
