55-Man Provisional Super Eagles Squad Named for AFCON 2025

Coach Eric Chelle unveils 55-man provisional Super Eagles squad for AFCON 2025...

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled a 55-man provisional squad for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, with captain William Ekong, Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Stanley Nwabali leading the roster.

CBI News reports that the announcement marks the start of preparations for the 35th edition of the tournament, where the Super Eagles aim to reclaim the continental crown they last won in 2013.

Chelle’s list features familiar faces from Europe’s top leagues, including goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, defenders Zaidu Sanusi, Calvin Bassey, and Semi Ajayi, midfielders Frank Onyeka, Alex Iwobi, and Raphael Onyedika, and forwards Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Simon Moses, and Chidera Ejuke.

In a notable move to promote domestic talent, Chelle also included players from the Nigeria Premier Football League such as Abdulrasheed Shehu, Ebenezer Harcourt, Ekeson Okorie, Chisom Orji, and Adekunle Adeleke.

Officials confirmed that the final squad of 28 players will be announced in the coming days.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to open camp in Egypt on Wednesday, 10 December, where they will play warm-up matches ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on Sunday, 21 December.

Nigeria has been drawn in Group C alongside Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda.
