Datti says he told Obi to pick Kwankwaso or El-Rufai ahead of 2027...
Former vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, has disclosed that he advised Peter Obi on his political plans ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
CBI News reports that he said the discussion took place on January 31, 2024, during which he suggested that Obi should consider selecting a new running mate.
According to Datti, potential options for the role could include Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Nasir El-Rufai, or any other strong political figure.
“I was the one who told Obi on 31 January, 2024 that, ‘Kwankwaso or Nasir El-Rufai or another person, you may approach them,’” he said.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Datti noted that despite differences in their political approaches, he remains supportive of Obi.
“As far as I am concerned I will continue to support you but our politics are different,” he added.
Datti also reiterated his belief that the Labour Party won the 2023 presidential election but expressed concern that stronger steps were not taken to reclaim what he described as their mandate.
“You let go of 2023 that we won,” he said.
He explained that his comments were meant to offer honest advice and help shape a clearer political strategy ahead of the next election cycle.
