Morka says APC will participate in the 2027 elections regardless of any boycott by opposition parties...
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said it will not withdraw from the 2027 general elections, even if opposition parties decide to boycott the polls over allegations of bias by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
CBI News reports that APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, made this known on during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Reacting to calls by some opposition figures urging parties to boycott the election, Morka dismissed the move and expressed confidence that other political parties would still participate.
“The ADC is not the only political party in Nigeria. The PDP is still a political party. The Labour Party is there. And there are about 16, 17 or 18 other parties that are still registered in this country that I bet will field presidential candidates in the next election,” he said.
He added, “Just today, I was reading a report… suggesting that some members of the ADC and maybe some other parties are considering boycotting the next election. I wish them luck.”
Morka ruled out any possibility of the APC stepping back from the race, insisting the party would fully exercise its constitutional right to contest.
“As I said earlier… I can’t give an assurance that the APC will not participate. We will participate as vigorously as we are required in a democracy. Our constitution gives us the liberty to participate, just like it gives ADC, PDP, Labour Party and anybody else the opportunity to participate,” he stated.
He also challenged opposition parties to focus on strengthening themselves rather than targeting the ruling party.
“I think this question should be turned over to the ADC, Labour Party and to the PDP to ask what exactly they are doing… to bring themselves into viable capacity to compete… It should not be about the APC,” he said.
Morka further accused sections of the opposition, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC), of attempting to “emotionally” pressure their way into relevance.
“So far, the ADC are being emotionally manipulated. They’re being very infantile and need to stop and focus on solving their problem… Now, if I were to be a member of the ADC… I would tell the leadership to take some responsibility,” he added.
The remarks come amid growing calls within opposition circles for a possible boycott of the 2027 elections, citing alleged bias by INEC and fears of a predetermined outcome.
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Taminu Turaki, alongside Omoyele Sowore of the African Action Congress, has openly supported the idea.
Similarly, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the party is considering the option, while Ini Ememobong argued that a boycott may be necessary to avoid legitimising what he described as a “compromised and predetermined” process.
