After months of anxiety and uncertainty, there is finally some good news coming out of Kwara State.
In a huge relief for families and the entire state, 176 victims abducted during the horrific February 3rd attack on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area have regained their freedom.
The Kwara State Government confirmed the development on Wednesday via its official Facebook page, months after the mass abduction shook the state.
In its announcement, the government wrote, “Alihamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!”
You will recall that the victims were kidnapped when suspected Boko Haram-linked extremists invaded the rural communities on motorcycles in a coordinated assault that lasted for hours.
It was described as one of the deadliest attacks in Kwara’s history, with reports indicating that over 200 lives were lost, many injured, and homes and businesses destroyed. Local vigilantes who tried to fight back were said to have been overwhelmed, with some tragically trapped and burnt inside their office.
As of press time, details surrounding how their release was secured are still sketchy.
