Residents flee as Boko Haram Overruns Sheweri, Kirchinga in Madagali....
Suspected Boko Haram insurgents reportedly overran Sheweri and Kirchinga communities in Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State, sparking fresh fears among residents in the border region.
The affected communities, located in the hometown axis of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, came under attack in what was described as a coordinated assault late Tuesday night.
Residents said that no fewer than 13 persons have been confirmed dead so far, while several others sustained injuries during the invasion. The attackers were said to have stormed the villages, shooting sporadically and forcing residents to flee into nearby bushes and neighbouring settlements for safety.
Sheweri and Kirchinga are located in Madagali, a frontline local government area that has repeatedly witnessed insurgent attacks due to its proximity to the Sambisa forest corridor and the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
Eyewitnesses reported that many homes were deserted as panic gripped the communities. Women, children, and the elderly were seen trekking long distances overnight to escape the violence.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident. However, investigations are reportedly ongoing, with security operatives mobilised to the area.
Residents are calling for urgent reinforcement of military presence to prevent further attacks and restore confidence in the troubled communities.
