Nigerian Army charges troops to end terrorism and respect human rights...
The Nigerian Army says ending terrorism in the Northeast must go hand-in-hand with respecting human rights.
The military urged troops to uphold international humanitarian laws and professional conduct in the theatre of operations.
CBI News reports that the charge was delivered at a Human Rights and Professional Conduct sensitization workshop held at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The session was organized by the Army’s Civil-Military Affairs Department to reinforce lawful engagement practices among frontline personnel.
Maj. Gen. Musa Etsu-Ndadi, Chief of Civil-Military Affairs warned that any officer who violates the rules of engagement will face strict sanctions under martial law.
He also cautioned troops against arms pilfering, drug abuse, and illicit drug trading, saying these acts fuel insecurity and weaken operations.
The Army also reaffirmed that its mission to end terrorism remains firm, to restore peace and allow social and economic activities back to full operation across the Northeast region.
