Thirty goals in two matches. No, that’s not a typo, the Comoros women’s team just rewrote the record books on their way to a date with Africa’s queens.
Right, let's talk about a proper battering.
The Coelacanths of Comoros have booked themselves a second-round tie against the Super Falcons after absolutely dismantling Sudan 30-0 on aggregate in the first round of the 2028 Olympic qualifiers. cbinewstv reports.
It was ruthless from the start. They won the opening fixture 17-0 before sealing a comprehensive 13-0 triumph in the return leg, Wikipedia's official qualifying table has it logged as Sudan 0-17 Comoros, then Comoros 13-0 Sudan for a 30-0 aggregate.
The first leg was wild. Fatima Saïd Madjiri opened the scoring after just eight minutes, and what followed was a relentless attacking exhibition. Nine different players found the back of the net in that one game alone, which tells you everything about the depth in this Comorian side. Haloua Ahamada grabbed four, with a couple of braces flying in from Aliya Saïd, Shaima Boina Ali and Faïza Houmadi.
Monday's second leg was more of the same, another 13-0 win that left Sudan chasing shadows for 90 minutes. Comoros barely broke sweat.
Now comes the real test. They face Nigeria's Super Falcons, Africa's most successful women's team and firm favourites heading into the next stage.
And Justine Madugu's Falcons look sharp too. They just beat Senegal 3-0 at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne on Monday night, following a 2-1 win over the same opposition in an earlier friendly.
Mark your diary: the second-round qualifiers are scheduled between 5 October and 13 October 2026. Only two African nations will make it to the women's football tournament at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, USA, so the stakes couldn't be higher.
Comoros have the momentum, Nigeria have the pedigree. Something has to give.
