African parliamentary leaders on Monday converged on Abuja for the inaugural African Legislative Aides Conference (ALAC), with a unified call for stronger legislative institutions, digital transformation and deeper democratic consolidation across the continent.
The three-day conference, holding at the NAF Conference Centre, Abuja, drew lawmakers, parliamentary aides, diplomats and governance experts from across Africa under the theme: “Empowering Legislative Aides as Strategic Drivers of Parliamentary Effectiveness in African Nations.”
Delivering the keynote address, the Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly of South Sudan, Jemma Kumba, underscored the indispensable role of legislative aides in strengthening African parliaments.
Earlier in his welcome remarks, Chairman of the National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum (NASLAF), Emeka Nwala, described the gathering as historic, noting that it marks the official launch of the African Legislative Aides Forum.
Nwala said the body was established to advance regional collaboration and strengthen parliamentary institutions across Africa, particularly at a time when some countries have witnessed democratic reversals.
